Brandi and I decided to create a community cookbook because food brings people together, and a cookbook is something that can be passed down for generations. Recognizing people from your community and their family recipes brings families closer. We started by collecting favorite recipes from people in the Lyons-Decatur communities. Then we organized the recipes and began designing the cookbook through a cookbook company. We collected pre-orders for cookbooks in order to cover some of the cost. Brandi and I advertised our cookbook with fliers and in the announcements. We decided to donate any extra funds from the sale of cookbooks to the local food pantry. During this project, we learned how to communicate with the community, through fliers, email, and social media. The result of our project is a cookbook full of amazing recipes from people in our community that will hold on to it forever.
